Canberra and Region Heritage Festival

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1967 constitutional referendum that saw Indigenous Australians finally included in the census. The festival’s theme 'Questions & Change' will commemorate this historic event with over 100 events, talks, workshops and activities. Be enchanted by local Aboriginal artists, tour through an 1860s homestead or find yourself immersed in your family history.  

Held Tuesday 18 April to Sunday 7 May across various locations in Canberra.

Raiders v Sea Eagles

There’s talk that Manly have recruited strongly in recent years and are a force to be reckoned with. Raiders have the home ground advantage and will need the support of their fans. Cheer on your team to victory this Friday. Remember to use the password 17ANZAC for a special discounted ticket price when booking with Ticketek.

Held Friday 21 April at GIO Stadium from 6pm to 9pm.

Sunwaves Indoor Street Fest

Think live music, delicious dishes and a healthy serving of mojitos. Enjoy the best local food and drink to the sounds of everything from toe tappin’ funk to Caribbean beats. We hear there will also be living statues, classic cars and arts galore.

Held Saturday 22 April at the Old Bus Depot from 5pm to midnight. Entry is $20 for adults.

Autumn Three Sixty Fashion Market

Dedicated to recycling vintage, retro, handmade and pre-loved fashion this market is ideal for stylish and discerning shoppers. Committed to sustainable fashion and to creating a market place, the gorgeous clothes on offer reflect the ethical ideologies of this market.

Held Sunday 23 April at the Fitters’ Workshop in the Kingston Foreshore from 10am to 3pm.

AMB 100 Mountain Bike Marathon

What better way to enjoy the outdoors on a crisp Autumn day than on your bike with magnificent views of the nation’s capital? Well, we reckon, watching and cheering on competitors as they complete this marathon race is a pretty amazing experience as well. Whether you compete or are a supporter the adrenaline of the race will have you wanting more.

Held Sunday 23 April at Stromlo Forest Park from 5am to 4pm.

Anzac Day at the Australian War Memorial

Visit the Australian War Memorial and attend the Dawn Service, National ANZAC Day Ceremony and Last Post Ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces in the First World War.

Remember to register to ride the bus for free. For more information on bus routes, schedules and registering please visit transport.act.gov.au.

Held Tuesday 25 April at the Australian War Memorial from 5:30am onwards.

National Dinosaur Museum

Check out the dinosaur museum’s latest acquisition – a fossil dinosaur nest from France. Learn about the dinosaur babies with a free tour and make sure to keep an eye out for the largest egg in the world. Word to the wise, at midday every day during the April school holidays, kids can paint a dinosaur egg to take home.

Held Monday 10 April to Tuesday 25 April at the National Dinosaur Museum. Check their website for tour times. Please note the tour and painting experience are free with a normal entry ticket.

The Play That Goes Wrong

As the title suggests everything that can go wrong...does! The accident-prone thespians battle on against all the odds to get to their final curtain call with hilarious consequences! This play has won more awards than we care to name and has played to packed houses in the West End.

Held Tuesday 25 – Sunday 30 April at the Canberra Theatre Centre.

Borrow Tomorrow

Gathering the energy of the land, chewing it up and pushing it into his paintings, Luke Chiswell captures the physical manifestation of inspiration in his artworks. This exhibition plays with space, abstract perception and scale challenging the viewer to look beyond the art.

Held 7 April to Sunday 7 May at the Nishi Gallery from 11am to 3pm. 

Above and Beyond

Looking for something to entertain the whole family this school holidays?Questaconhas you covered. Design and test-fly your own supersonic jet, spread your wings and experience flight as a bird, or soar into space for a spectacular 360-degree view of earth at their new exhibition exploring flight.

Held Saturday 25 March to Sunday 23 July at Questacon from 9am to 5pm.

 

Events to look forward to...

Artist in Residence Open Day

Enjoy a free day out at Namadgi National Park and gain inspiration from 2017 Craft ACT Artist-in-Residence Marilou Chagnaud in a workshop teaching folding and weaving techniques with paper inspired by textiles. Word to the wise, there will be a free charter bus to take visitors from Civic Square to the national park.

Held Saturday 29 April at Namadgi Visitors Centre from 9:45am onwards. The free bus will depart from Civic Square at 8:30am, returning by 3:40pm. Bookings are essential.

Canberra International Music Festival

It's not just the way it sounds. It's the way it feels.Being up close. Following the journey of a piece of music from start to finish. That's the Canberra International Music Festival. Intimate performances, exceptional musicianship, in some of the capital's most iconic settings.

Held 27 April to 7 May at various locations across Canberra.

National Capital Rally

Drivers will be pushed to the limit, tackling some of the best roads Australia has to offer. Get up close to international motor sport stars and feel the adrenaline of this fast passed rally.

It all kicks off on Friday afternoon with a ceremonial meet and greet of the teams at Hotel Realm, before heading out to the forest for a weekend of sport. Spectating is free throughout the weekend with plenty of activities for little and big kids alike across the spectator points.

Held Friday 26 May to Sunday 28 May at Stromlo Forest Park.
